Smart Lipo story
"I have always tried hard
to eat carefully (low fat balanced diet)
and regularly worked out at the gym however
I always had a stubborn area of fat on
my tummy and what I thought of as 'side
saddles' which seem to run in my family
(always lovingly called my 'fat back'!).
As my job became busier and I spent more
time traveling it became more difficult
to find time to work out at the gym and
generally exercise. My diet became erratic
due to all the travel. I would think about
it constantly and feel guilty that I could
not find time to exercise and hopefully
'reduce' size of area. In a sense I became
more obsessed with a work/life balance
and fixated with 'knowing where a gym
was'!
My friends would tell me not to worry
and that the problem was a side effect
of getting older, but I would look at
friends my age that had great bodies and
know that was not entirely true!

When
I found out about Smart Lipo it sounded
almost too good to be true - virtually
no pain, minimal bleeding and scarring
and the major incentive was no down time
and no hospital stay as it did not require
a general anesthetic. I have a very busy
job and cannot afford to take 2 weeks
off work to recover nor would I want to.
I researched the procedure thoroughly
and was made to feel comfortable and reassured
about it at the consultation stage with Dr Andre
at Court House Clinic in Wimpole Street. Obviously
any medical procedure produces feelings of anxiety
but I was informed of all the potential side
effects and perfectly happy to proceed. On the
day of the procedure itself the staff were lovely
and very helpful and reassuring especially Dr
Andre. Before the treatment the Doctor took
photographs (following pictures taken at the
initial consultation) and marked out areas on
my stomach and sides as a guide.

THE TREATMENT
I was relaxed but started to feel nervous when I saw the operating table in the treatment room. Dr Andre and his nurse explained everything they were going to do which put me at ease. They were brilliant and very easy and friendly to talk to. I talked throughout my treatment and I was told what to expect at every stage.
Dr Andre prepared me for surgery by injecting me with a local anesthetic in the areas where he made the tiny incisions (the only pain was felt at this stage but more of a scratch as the anesthetic was injected and certainly tolerable). I felt relaxed and confirmed the areas were numb.
As soon as the anesthetic had taken hold Dr Andre firstly made 2 tiny incisions (1.5mm I was informed) inside my belly button on either side. He was then able to inject deeper parts of my stomach with the anesthetic so make sure it was evenly distributed in the areas that he would work on with the laser. It was a strange sensation which felt like pulling and pushing motion. The laser was then inserted which again felt strange and a warm sometimes hot sensation could be felt as the laser broke down the fat cells with a faint dull pain. When I winced slightly the Doctor and nurse noticed immediately and either slowed down or added slightly more anesthetic which was very comforting. Dr Andre moved the laser in rapid steady motions and you could see the light from the laser under the skin (it reminded me of “ET” film and his finger glowing on the end!!) When the tummy area had been finished the Doctor put small plasters over the incision marks which were actually hardly bleeding at all.
He then moved onto the love handles on my sides and exactly the same sensations were felt. Just one tiny incision either side just above my waist line and he repeated the treatment working on my sides moving towards my ‘fat back’ area!
On a scale of 1-10 I’d rate the pain factor during the infiltration of the anesthetic stage maybe 5 and afterwards 2 or 3. The procedure took around 2-3 hours.
AFTER THE TREATMENT
I relaxed in the clinic for around an hour and had a cup of tea and then left to go home. The clinic staff wanted to book me a taxi to go home but I actually left the clinic to walk for a cab and actually ended up jumping on bus home! I really felt that fine. An hour later a member of the medical team called me on my phone to check I was feeling of and also the following day I received a call from them.
I only really felt a tugging type pain when I twisted or reached high – it was actually fine and I worked from home sat upright in chair working on computer with no pain at all.
I could see an immediate reduction that my partner noticed straight away, although initially I was swollen from the surgery. This only really lasted for a day or so. The area of skin on my tummy felt a little loose and ‘sloshy’ but was assured this was normal as the collagen ‘kicks in’ and the area tightened up and the fat was starting to be expelled.
As the fat is broken down and expelled via the liver (like a normal waste product) then my wee was a little cloudy for a few days afterwards – certainly did not notice anything unpleasant though! Knowing that the destroyed fat cells can never come back gives me a great feeling of satisfaction!!
My waist size has dropped from 33” to 30” and I can wear fitted shirts and tops without any ‘stretching’ at the sides! I have more body confidence now. Everyone is intrigued with the progress of it as it gradually gets better and better (slimmer and more toned!). Quite a few friends booked a consultation and some have already had treatment!
I don’t regret my decision on any level. I was very happy to have such an innovative treatment and I my only regret is that this treatment had been available years ago!
FINANCIAL
How much did the treatment cost?
Total £3500. 1 area cost £2000 (upper/lower tummy) and additional sides (love handles) were £1500 as I had both areas treated on same day.
I was going to have to save but CHC have a great arrangement with a Medical Loans Company so actually paid on interest free credit!
