Gastric band surgery Birmingham
A Lap Band is an inflatable prosthetic device made from silicone that is placed around the top part of the stomach, which divides it into two sections, and so reducing stomach capacity and diminishing the amount of food that can be eaten at one time. Either women or men who have not gained satisfactory results from common techniques of dropping weight, that is, exercise and diet, and have long-suffered obesity, are suitable applicants for this method.
There are a number of advantages to this surgery, which are: * Smaller, less noticeable incisions * Scarring is minimal * Without the need for further surgery, adjustments can be made at any time What is involved in this procedure? Our Clinics perform this treatment using narrow incisions to wrap the Gastric Band around the stomach of the patient. The band can be inflated through a small access port positioned just under the skin. Saline is added to the Gastric Band using the port resulting in its expanding, and therefore limiting the aperture of the passage between the stomach and the pouch, lessening any food movement.
