  1. How does Botulinum Toxin work?

Botulinum Toxin blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. Botulinum Toxin relaxes the muscles so that they do not contract. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.

  2. Are Botulinum Toxin treatments safe?

Botulinum Toxin injections have been used safely for over twenty years to treat many neurological and ophthalmological disorders. Each year tens of thousands of patients receive Botulinum Toxin for relief from a variety of conditions and it is quickly becoming a popular treatment for reversing the visible signs of aging.

  3. What is the treatment like?

Cosmetic “regeneration” with Botulinum Toxin is a simple and safe procedure. Using a tiny micro-needle, a very small amount of Botulinum Toxin is injected very precisely into several locations on the face. The needle is so fine and only a small amount is used, therefore the pain associated with the injection is minimal. Most patients compare the sensation to a mosquito bite. No sedation or local anaesthetic is required. You can resume normal activities immediately afterwards and even drive yourself home or back to your place of work.

  4. Are there any side effects?

Some patients experience a slight temporary bruising at the injection site. This may be covered up with make up. In some cases, the toxin can migrate and cause temporary weakness to nearby small muscles. In rare cases there can be drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of facial expression. The risk of any side effect depends upon the muscles injected. Your doctor will discuss this with you in detail before the treatment. Because the effects of Botulinum Toxin are completely reversible, any side effects are temporary, lasting only a few weeks.

  5. What results can I expect?

If dynamic wrinkles make you look older than you are, cosmetic “regeneration” can smooth these out and give you a more youthful and pleasing appearance. However, this treatment cannot improve wrinkles due to aging and sun-damaged skin since they are unrelated to facial muscle contractions. Muscle relaxing injections will not improve sagging skin or replace the need for a facelift or brow lift.

  6. What are the limitations of Botulinum Toxin?

Unfortunately, Botulinum Toxin injections are a temporary solution for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles. The effects of the injections last from three to six months. You will need to have injections about two to three times a year. The early clinical studies indicate that the duration of the treatment benefits is increased over time so that you should require fewer injections in the future. The duration of the effect varies from patient to patient and may be less effective for those over 65 years of age.

  7. Is Botulinum Toxin used to treat other symptoms?

Yes, Botulinum Toxin has been used for over twenty years on thousands of patients to treat blepharospasm associated with dystonia.

  8. Is Botox safe long term?

Botox® has been used in patients to manage various conditions for over 10 years and in the UK for well over 15 years around the world.

A recent analysis of Botox® studies has followed over 2000 patients for an overage of 12 years of treatment and has concluded that Botox® has a favourable safety and tolerability profile. Dr Patrick Bowler, our Medical Director, has written a retrospective study on Botox® which was published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, Volume 4, Number 2 dated June 2005.

Botox in our Manchester clinic

For the last decade botulinum toxin (or Botox) has been the highest regarded and efficient procedures available for reducing fine lines and wrinkles that make you look older. It's a simple treatment which causes the paralysis of distinct facial muscles to diminish the development of lines, such as crows' feet. Botox's benefits can be visible for approximately half a year, as it decreases the creation of a wrinkle. Put simply, the treated will be fundamentally 6 months behind, resulting in a constant, younger appearance. The continuous use of Botox can essentially revitalise the appearance of your face, especially if used in company with a recurring skin care routine.

Liposuction treatments
Liposuction is a primarly cosmestic surgery that removes fat deposits that surround the back, stomach, chin, thighs, chest, and sides that are near impossible to get rid of through excercise or dieting. It is not however a quick fix, rather than a method of refining specific parts of the body.

Surgeons at Dr. Bowler's Clinics exact this treatment using a small surgical tube inserted into the section that requires the surgery, breaking the fat up and then removing it. Book an appointment please go to our Liposuction section.

Laser hair removal

Welcome to Court House Clinics. Under the guidance of Dr Patrick Bowler (well known from the television programme “10 years younger”) Court House has grown to offer a huge range of cosmetic and beauty treatments. Whilst these cover everything from high surgery treatments such as a face lift through to cosmetic injections for lines and wrinkles, in recent times laser hair removal has become one of our most popular treatments. Laser hair removal is a great way to deal with the growth of unwanted hair without having to go through the day-to-day ritual of shaving. With so many people coming to us for laser hair removal, we are now in position to offer it at a very competitive price. We also have regular promotions on it as well, for both new and existing hair removal customers.

Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery is no longer the preserve of the rich and famous but is now accessible to everyone. This is largely due to safer techniques, reduced downtime with shorter scars, and greater awareness due to media exposure. It is also partly down to the larger number of people who have had non-surgical treatments before diving straight into cosmetic surgery.

The most common treatment that is carried out is liposuction (tummy tuck), rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), otoplasty (ear correction) and blepharoplasty (eyebag or eyelid surgery). These are often carried out in conjunction with treatments such as chin or cheek implants.

The most common surgery carried on women is breast enlargement (augmentation) and then mastopexy (breast uplift) closely followed by breast reduction surgery and face-lifts. However we are also seeing a marked increase for requests for labia and vaginal plastic surgeries.

Arguably the biggest change in recent years is the increase in demand for male cosmetic surgeries, with the most popular treatments being chest reduction, pectoral implant and testicular implants.

Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments

The demand for non-surgical treatments has grown at an even faster rate than cosmetic surgery. The treatments that are most in demand are laser hair removal and microdermabrasion treatments. These can mimic the effects of surgery or be used in combination with surgical procedures to enhance and prolong results.

For people with problem skin scientific breakthroughs now mean we are able to offer some of the best acne treatments available in combination with most effective anti aging treatments. For example we have invested in some of the latest acne laser treatment and when combined with chemical glycolic skin peels or perlane injections this can create similar effects as a cosmetic face-lift surgery and is very effect treatment for acne scarring.

Some of the non-surgical options provide a real alternative to surgery. A prime example of this is smart Lipo. This laser assisted liposculpture provides fast fat loss where the fat is actually dissolved by the body naturally. For small areas of localised fat this treatment is sometimes better than Liposuction as it is minimally invasive and involves little downtime.

In addition to these treatments we also offer thread vein removal, sculptra, perlane and restylane injections, skin tag removal, mole removal, cyst removal and laser tattoo removal.
