Face and Neck Lift (Rhytidectomy)

As we age skin loses its elasticity and our facial muscles begin to slacken and youthful volume is lost.  The rate at which this occurs  varies from person to person but these changes can be addressed with a face and neck lift. With our surgeons skill and experience a natural look can be achieved with a much quicker recovery time.

A lower face lift effectively removes excess skin in the check, jowl and neck area leaving the jaw and neck lines smooth and firm.  Deep wrinkles are greatly reduced and the whole face appears refreshed and rejuvenated.  An upper face lift or brow lift corrects the forehead and can be combined with eyelid or eye bag correction.  The decision as to which type of facelift is performed will depend on your requirements, the current structure and anatomy of your face and the effect that ageing has played on your facial appearance. Our surgeons can advise on the best treatment for your individual needs.

Frequently Asked Questions – Face and Neck lift

Will the wrinkles return?
Yes. During your medical consultation your surgeon will point out that the skin will continue to age. It is important that you understand that the ageing process will not stop after a facelift.

Who is the most suitable facelift patient?
The best patient is someone with jowls, loose neck skin and a general saggy appearance to the skin on the face and neck. If the patients also has lots of wrinkles, non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment can be combined with a facelift for an improved overall result.

Will I need to take time off work?
Yes, normally 7 -14 days is required off work and the surgeon may advise you to take more time off. Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes 2-3 hours and will require an overnight stay in hospital. The surgeon can also combine this procedure with lipoplasty (fat removal) under the chin.

Will I feel pain afterwards?
All patients will feel sore for several days after the operation and pain killers and anti inflammatory medication will be prescribed. The face will be swollen and bruised in the days following surgery and the full results may be obscured by swelling for several weeks which will be explained by your surgeon.

Could I have eye rejuvenation at the same time as a facelift?
Yes, the best results are achieved when these two procedures are combined resulting in an overall improvement.

Will there be scarring after a face lift or combined facial surgery?
In the case of eye rejuvenation an incision is made close to the natural crease of the eyelid. During a facelift incisions are made in front of the ear, in the crease line behind the ear and into the hairline. In both procedures post operative scarring will fade over time and become virtually undetectable.

The Rhytidectomy (face lift) Experience
The thought of having a face lift procedure may seem a bit daunting but rhytidectomy is more common than you might believe. Although it’s not without complication possibilities, nowadays it’s a simpler technique that’s carried out by our very experienced team. Think about the benefits you can get from taking the plunge – no more avoiding mirrors so you don’t have to look at your aging skin, no more expensive products that promise a lot and deliver nothing no matter how closely you following the directions, and no more additional lines caused by the worry that you’re starting to look old!

Rhytidecomy requires a short time of your life during which time you can recharge your batteries while your face is given a renewed youthful appearance at the hands of our professional surgeons. Afterwards you’ll be able to able to rest at home while your face recovers from the rhytidectomy. The clinic will give you advice as to how to aid this recovery by avoiding such things as bending, straining, saunas and massage.

If you’re concerned about the level of pain following the face lift, you shouldn’t be. Once the anaesthetic wears off this requires nothing more than normal pain relief medication that’s available over the counter. Your team at the clinic will be able to advise you on what you should purchase before your procedure so that you have it at home. You may also find that using a cold compress such as ice that you wrap in a towel or face cloth will help with the swelling that occurs immediately after the rhytidectomy is performed.

If you’re unhappy with the aging, sagging look of the skin on your face, talk to our specialist team and they’ll advise what they think is best for your situation, walk you through the procedure and answer any queries you have.
