  1. Is Fraxel for me?

As our skin ages the elasticity and moisture can be lost and this can then result in wrinkled, lined and dry textured skin. Fraxel treatments are suitable for all skin types and helps to rejuvenate the skin by simulating your bodys natural healing process, encouraging the growth of new collagen. The result will leave your skin feeling smoother, tighter and youthful. The treatment can be performed on all areas of the body popularly the face, neck hands and décolletage are the most treated areas with patients.

  2. How does the Fraxel treatment work?

Our facial skin is simply made up of 3 layers - The outer layer (the epidermis), a collagen- rich underlayer (the dermis) and an inner layer beneath the dermis (the subcutaneous layer - also known as the fat layer) which has a web of collagen fibres running through it. The Microscopic laser columns penetrate deep into the lower layer of skin (dermis), creating a tiny wound that triggers the bodys natural response to heal, and produce new collagen.

  3. Does the treatment hurt?

The treatment will give you some discomfort, but prior to treatment your practitioner will apply an anaesthetic cream to the area that will reduce this. During your treatment the Fraxel® machine will also blow out cold air continuously onto the area being treated. Post treatment you may feel the area will be sore similar to sunburn but this should subside with a couple hours. Aftercare advice will be given to you by your practitioner after completion of your treatment.

  4. Is the procedure safe/Are there any side effects?

The Fraxel laser system has very few risks associated with the treatment due to its unique delivery on laser columns.  However, the skin can be highly sensitive and care must be taken to minimise any adverse reactions. There are no reported side effects or long lasting adverse effects from the treatment except for hypopigmentation (lightening or darkening of the treated area of skin), but this is always a risk with any laser treatment.
