  1. What causes male hair loss?

The scientific name for hair loss in men is Androgenic Alopecia or in everyday language male pattern baldness. It is caused by the effect of male hormones, which are located on selected hair follicles. These hormones are genetically spread down the family. Men who suffer with hair loss are doing so because these follicles there testosterone is converted into the androgen 'DHT'. It is the effect of this DHT that prevents the growth of new hair follicles and subsequently causes hair loss and eventually baldness.

  2. What is DHT?

DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone and it is a hormone caused when testosterone (a male hormone) is converted into the androgen by and enzyme called 5-alpha Reductase.

  3. Why does hair loss happen?

The production of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is still a mystery, no one knows why the affect only the follicles of hair that are confined to the top of the head leaving the sides and the back perfectly in tack.

  4. Is hair loss treatable?

It is certainly manageable we are able to stop the further loss of hair and encourage new hair to regrow using drugs such as Finasteride or Minoxidil. However for many people they want to be able to reverse the effects and go back to 'normal' in this instance we do offer FUE, which is essentially a hair transplant. To procedure involves taking hair follicles from the horse-shoe shaped section of donor hair on your scalp and implanting them into the areas where the hair is less concentrated.

  5. Does hair loss affect women?

Hair loss not only affects men it is also a common occurrence for women and 40% of the female population suffer from it. Many women experience a thinning hair problem in their 20's and 30's which can continue to affect them into their menopausal years. This can prove to be a genuine source of distress and can also have a significant impact on self-esteem, therefore most women are keen to disguise the effects or slow down the process if possible.
