Frequently asked questions

What causes underarm sweating?

Excessive sweating is known medically as ‘hyperhidrosis’ and when normal perspiration under the arms becomes excessive, it is described as “axillary hyperhidrosis”. Eccrine sweat glands are stimulated by their nerve endings which are triggered by the brain in response to emotional stress or physical stress such as increased body temperature when the body’s natural reaction is to try to cool down through perspiration.

Signals from the brain to the nerves that control sweating are governed by acetylcholine, a chemical component in the sweat gland which if inhibited will reduce the production of sweat. Botulinum Toxin has been scientifically engineered as a neurotoxin which can block the nerve and stop the release of acetylcholine for months. A more natural and manageable level of perspiration will then be attained and this can have a life enhancing effect for the patient.

Who are good candidates for Botox® Injections?

  • Those affected by excessive underarm sweating
  • Those whose working environment requires close contact with the public such as dentists, surgeons, hair stylists, airline flight attendants and others
  • People exposed to hot working conditions such as chefs and television presenters or newcasters.
  • Those required to give public presentations
  • Those whose clothes have repeatedly become spoiled by underarm staining.

How is Botulinum Toxin used?

The first stage of the treatment is for the patient to undergo a safe and easy starch indicator test to locate sweat glands. Once highlighted, the glands can be treated directly by Botox injection. Several little injections are administered by our professional practitioners during treatment using a tiny micro-needle in around 12-15 places in each underarm region.

Extreme physical exercise is not recommended for several hours after treatment, but all other normal activity may be resumed.

When will treatment take effect?

Sweating under the arms will reduce by 95% within 48 hours and full effectiveness will be achieved within the first week. An added benefit is the reduction in the unpleasant body odour associated with excessive sweating.

How long does the treatment last?

One treatment should provide 5 – 6 months relief from excessive sweating.

What are the risks and complications?

There may be signs of slight bruising at the point of injection, but this will fade soon after treatment. A second treatment is sometimes required in small areas where undue sweating persists, but there is no risk of muscle weakness and no permanent numbness of skin changes can occur.

How much can I expect to pay for treatment?

Prices from £500 per session - additional treatments usually required every 9 - 12 months dependant upon the individual.

Laser hair removal

Welcome to Court House Clinics. Under the guidance of Dr Patrick Bowler (well known from the television programme “10 years younger”) Court House has grown to offer a huge range of cosmetic and beauty treatments. Whilst these cover everything from high surgery treatments such as a face lift through to cosmetic injections for lines and wrinkles, in recent times laser hair removal has become one of our most popular treatments. Laser hair removal is a great way to deal with the growth of unwanted hair without having to go through the day-to-day ritual of shaving. With so many people coming to us for laser hair removal, we are now in position to offer it at a very competitive price. We also have regular promotions on it as well, for both new and existing hair removal customers.

Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery is no longer the preserve of the rich and famous but is now accessible to everyone. This is largely due to safer techniques, reduced downtime with shorter scars, and greater awareness due to media exposure. It is also partly down to the larger number of people who have had non-surgical treatments before diving straight into cosmetic surgery.

The most common treatment that is carried out is liposuction (tummy tuck), rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), otoplasty (ear correction) and blepharoplasty (eyebag or eyelid surgery). These are often carried out in conjunction with treatments such as chin or cheek implants.

The most common surgery carried on women is breast enlargement (augmentation) and then mastopexy (breast uplift) closely followed by breast reduction surgery and face-lifts. However we are also seeing a marked increase for requests for labia and vaginal plastic surgeries.

Arguably the biggest change in recent years is the increase in demand for male cosmetic surgeries, with the most popular treatments being chest reduction, pectoral implant and testicular implants.

Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments

The demand for non-surgical treatments has grown at an even faster rate than cosmetic surgery. The treatments that are most in demand are laser hair removal and microdermabrasion treatments. These can mimic the effects of surgery or be used in combination with surgical procedures to enhance and prolong results.

For people with problem skin scientific breakthroughs now mean we are able to offer some of the best acne treatments available in combination with most effective anti aging treatments. For example we have invested in some of the latest acne laser treatment and when combined with chemical glycolic skin peels or perlane injections this can create similar effects as a cosmetic face-lift surgery and is very effect treatment for acne scarring.

Some of the non-surgical options provide a real alternative to surgery. A prime example of this is smart Lipo. This laser assisted liposculpture provides fast fat loss where the fat is actually dissolved by the body naturally. For small areas of localised fat this treatment is sometimes better than Liposuction as it is minimally invasive and involves little downtime.

In addition to these treatments we also offer thread vein removal, sculptra, perlane and restylane injections, skin tag removal, mole removal, cyst removal and laser tattoo removal.
