Pixel® Erbium-YAG laser is at the forefront of a new era of skin resurfacing laser treatment which Court House Clinics are delighted to be able to offer to clients. This procedure is non-invasive yet has proved effective in the field of ablative/deeper skin resurfacing.
Lasting results can be achieved with the minimum of disruption to your working life. If you had hoped for a simple treatment for the correction of scarring due to acne or for rejuvenation of ageing skin that would only involve 1-2 days away from work this procedure could be ideal for you.
This treatment is particularly effective for:
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Pigmented Lesions – sun damage and age spots
- Acne scarring – atrophic acne scars
- Rosacea
- Melasma
- Skin rejuvenation
Areas that can be treated are:
- Face (including eyes), Neck & Chest
- Hands & Arms
The way the laser technology works is by penetrating small spots of skin with the laser’s light, deep under the surface, to promote natural healing and the formation of new collagen to improve and resurface the skin. The actual laser beam divides into dots of light which penetrate deeply at the actual point of contact yet leave the skin between the dots as normal. The whole treatment area of skin is therefore left intact and recovers more quickly than if a surgical incision had been made. Following treatment any redness or flattening should only be apparent for up to 5 days.
Treatment sessions should be carried out at monthly intervals and between 3-6 treatments may be required to achieve optimum results.
Greater overall success may be achieved if this treatment is combined with Botox® injections and dermal fillers. These will improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Accent radiofrequency remodeling treatment for skin tightening and PRIORI® skin peels for pigmentation will also give added benefit.

Frequently asked questions
Do I require an initial consultation?
An initial consultation is required as an important first stage of the treatment programme when an accurate assessment can be made of what is required and the most appropriate treatment identified.
How does laser resurfacing work?
The Pixel® laser pre-programs a beam of light to split when it passes through its pixel micro optic lens. The resulting tiny dots of light become displayed in a grid-like formation that can accurately target tissue for resurfacing and leave the tissue in the spaces between completely untouched. The skin’s surface therefore remains intact and the skin’s natural healing response is promoted new collagen is formed in the targeted treatment points and the whole area recovers speedily to reveal a more healthy and attractive skin texture.
Is the treatment painful?
No, this treatment does not hurt and no local anaesthetic is required.
Are there any possible side effects?
No particular side-effects have been reported following treatment with the Pixel® Erbium laser especially when it has been used for alleviating hypo-pigmentation or hyper-pigmentation conditions.
However a mild sensitivity may be experienced similar to sunburn for a period of 3-4 hours following treatment but this will pass. Pain relievers should not be required and you may return to work within 1-2 days.
How long is the healing period?
The skin surrounding the treatment area usually remains red for 1-2 days and will also feel smooth and tight. Flaking will happen for up to 3 days and then full recovery should be achieved 5 days after treatment which compares well with the 3-6 weeks required for recovery from traditional resurfacing treatments.
It will be necessary to moisturize the treatment area regularly following the procedure and particularly when the skin is flaking. It is also recommended that you use a sun protector when such exposure is likely.
How long does the treatment take and how many sessions will I require?
Skin resurfacing with the Pixel® laser is a gradual process and more than one session will be required as it only resurfaces about 20% of the skin surface at any one time. Depending on the area being treated and the original condition of the skin, sessions can last anything from 10 – 60 minutes and usually 3 – 4 treatments provide a good result. Generally, people with dry skin may require more treatments than those with more moisturised skin. To ensure optimum results, an interval of 3 – 4 weeks between treatments is normal.
How long do the results last?
Following a course of treatment the effects may last up to 3 - 5 years or even longer, however you cannot stop the ageing process and your bio-logical clock will still tick. The long-lasting results also depend on how you look after your skin and we would therefore recommend a skin care consultation with one of our medical aestheticians who can devise an appropriate homecare regime for you.
Following treatment it is essential that you moisturise your skin and use a total daily protector (TDP) to ensure that the skin is prevented from further sun damage.
