Calf implants
Calf Implants can enhance the shape of your calf to improve the overall proportions and solidity which may not always be achieved purely through exercise. Calf Augmentation, as it is also called, is not only required for aesthetic purposes, but can redress the balance of disproportion or deformity of the legs resulting either from an accident or injury or natural causes. It may also be required to rectify damage caused by muscle deterioration disease.
The procedure is carried out under general or local anaesthetic and can be expected to take 1½ to 2 hours. An incision is made in the relevant area and a silicone implant is put in place. This is positioned on top of the muscle and although the leg will feel rather stiff for a few weeks after surgery, you will be walking unaided after only a few days.
Your surgeon will fully discuss the procedure with you prior to making a decision as to what you would like done and is fully available to answer any questions you may have.

Frequently asked questions
How is the procedure performed?
The procedure employs the administration of local nerve blocks and regional spinal anaesthesia combined with medication that shrinks blood vessels and capillaries to reduce bleeding. A small incision is made in the natural crease behind the knee and the implant is carefully inserted into this space to ensure the implant lies correctly.
Will there be any discomfort following this procedure?
The legs are elevated during the first two days after surgery to reduce swelling while bed rest and only short walks to the bathroom are allowed. However there may still be swelling, or bruising but this will gradually subside. Moderate discomfort has been reported by patients but in general this has been described as quite mild and easily treated with medication
Are stitches used for this procedure?
You will not need to return for the removal of external sutures. Dissolvable sutures are used in the process and are placed under the surface of the skin to allow for healing efficiency and avoidance of any scarring.
Can I exercise after this procedure?
Walking is beneficial as part of the recovery programme and after 48 hours you will be encouraged to attempt some light walking, increasing to more general walking in the first two weeks. Normal walking activity and gentle exercise can begin 3 weeks after surgery, depending on individual progress.
More strenuous activities such as jogging and leg exercising should be avoided for eight weeks to encourage healing around the implant and minimizing risk of the implant becoming displaced. Any shiny stretched appearance around the implant will disappear in a month.
How long will healing take?
Full recovery may take up to a year and the scars will need this long to fully fade.
How much can I expect to pay for this procedure?
Price £4,950.
