Ear correction
Ear Correction, or Otoplasty, has long been a successful and popular form of cosmetic surgery.
Generally men do not have the same opportunity as women to hide ear imperfections with a choice of hairstyle and this may cause them to become generally self-conscious. Such surgery can therefore be beneficial in improving self esteem as well as providing an improved appearance. Such psychological damage has been accepted as a genuine problem for years and prominent ears are often corrected in childhood but this operation can be carried out on adults with equal success. Octoplasty is carried out as a day case under local anaesthetic at Court House Clinics and the results are immediate.
Frequently asked questions
Can I decide the shape of my new ears?
There may be individual considerations which you will have full opportunity to discuss with your surgeon in advance, but generally speaking you can decide on the desired shape of your new ears yourself.
What happens afterwards?
Following surgery the dressing should not be removed for at least 7-10 days.
Will surgery be painful?
The procedure is carried out entirely under local anaesthetic which ensures that you can be perfectly comfortable and feel no pain. Any discomfort following surgery should only last for up to 48 hours and can be treated through medication.
Will I need to take time off work?
Yes. . The actual procedure takes about 1-2 hours under local anaesthetic at a day clinic and then you can expect to be off work for a couple of days. The dressing will have to remain however for approximately 7-10 days.
Will I have any scarring?
In many cases the surgeon will make his incision behind the ear so any scarring is completely hidden.
