Face and neck lift
Over time our young skin starts to lose its elasticity and this can be particularly apparent in our faces as facial muscles slacken and youthful fullness also subsides. Such effects can be reversed by the skills of our cosmetic surgeons who can offer a procedure known as a face and neck lift to achieve a natural looking youthful appearance with minimal discomfort and fast recovery time.
Our experienced surgeons will discuss and advise you on the most beneficial treatment to suit your needs. There are varying degrees and combinations of face lift which can be matched to your own facial anatomy and how the ageing process has affected your overall appearance.
A lower face lift takes away excess skin in the cheek, jowl and neck area and in doing so, smoothes the jaw and neck line to create a firmer outline. Any sagging around the chin or deep wrinkles will be lessened to give a naturally rejuvenated and more youthful appearance.
An upper face lift otherwise known as a ‘brow lift’ takes excess skin up to the hairline to smooth a furrowed brow and improve any heavy lidded appearance to the eyes. This procedure is very successfully complemented by an additional procedure of ‘eyelid’ or ‘eye bag’ correction.
We also recommend Omnilux™ Revive & Plus light therapy both before and after this procedure for optimum healing. This can be discussed with your Cosmetic Surgery Advisor and an appropriate treatment plan worked out for you.
Frequently asked questions
Will the wrinkles return?
Yes. A facelift will not halt the ageing process, but the reasonable expectation of the result will be fully explained by your surgeon during your initial consultation.
Who is the most suitable facelift patient?
The most dramatic and satisfactory results are in patients who have a generally saggy appearance to the face with loose skin around the neck and jaw line. Such surgery is particularly beneficial when combined with non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment if the patient has many wrinkles. The surgeon may also recommend an additional procedure known as lipoplasty which involves removing fat from under the chin.
Will I need to take time off work?
Yes. The procedure is carried out under general anaesthesia and can take between 2-3 hours. An overnight stay is required in hospital and usually 7 -14 days is required off work, although the surgeon may in some instances advise more time for recovery.
Will I feel pain afterwards?
There will be discomfort for several days after the operation, but pain-killers and anti-inflammatory medication will be prescribed. There will be bruising and the face will be swollen which may obscure the final result for several weeks, but your surgeon will have fully explained to you all such details of your recovery before surgery..
Will there be scarring after a face lift or combined facial surgery?
In the case of eye rejuvenation an incision is made close to the natural crease of the eyelid. During a facelift incisions are made in front of the ear, in the crease line behind the ear and into the hairline. In both procedures post operative scarring will fade over time and become virtually undetectable.
