How do Dermal Fillers work?
Dermal fillers vary in their composition, but the most commonly used material is hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance within the body. Prior to treatment, your face will be cleansed with an antiseptic. A local anaesthetic cream can be applied to the treatment area to minimise discomfort. Using a fine needle, we will then inject the dermal filler into pre-selected treatment sites.
Once injected, dermal fillers work by mimicking the depleted supply of hyaluronic acid in your body. Results will be immediately visible. The anti-ageing benefits will be long-lasting, but not permanent. Dermal filler products are biodegradable, which means they will gradually be metabolised by your body. Future treatments will be necessary to maintain results.
-
Is this treatment painful?
All of our dermal filler treatments can be combined with lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) to minimise procedural discomfort. Most patients report little or no pain during treatment.
-
How long do the results last?
Results of these treatments are immediate and the effects can last anything from three to twelve months, depending on which product is being used. The general length of time is specific to each individual.
All of the dermal filler treatments are non-permanent and are absorbed naturally over time- it’s your choice when to have further treatment to maintain the effect.
-
Are there any side effects associated with Dermal Fillers?
All of the dermal fillers we use have been clinically tested and are considered safe. Side effects are uncommon but may include hypersensitivity or mild bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site. All of these side effects will be discussed in-depth during your consultation.
-
How long does the treatment take?
The length of your treatment will depend on how many areas are being treated and which filler is being administered. Most treatment sessions can be completed in less than 30 minutes. There is no “down time” associated with treatment and you will be able to resume normal activities immediately.
-
What areas can be treated?
Dermal fillers can be elected for a variety of treatments, but typically they are used to soften and correct the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles and folds, as well as restore lost facial volume. Dermal fillers are also commonly used to augment or enhance the lips. One or more of the following conditions may indicate that you are a good candidate for dermal filler treatment: nasolabial folds (deep folds between the nose and the mouth), marionette lines (folds around the corners of the mouth), glabella lines (lines or wrinkles between the eyebrows, thin or wrinkled lips, sunken or hollow cheeks, facial depression or contour deficiencies. The best candidates for dermal fillers are healthy men and women who possess a positive outlook and realistic expectations. Dermal fillers are not recommended if you have an active skin infection, or if you have previously experienced an allergic reaction to dermal fillers.

What is non-animal, stabilised hyaluronic acid (NASHA)?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within the body, responsible for boosting skin elasticity and hydration. As we age, our body’s production of hyaluronic acid begins to deplete, resulting in visible signs of ageing. Most dermal fillers are composed of non-animal stabilised hyaluronic acid, a crystal clear gel that is biocompatible with the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in your body.
