1. How does the procedure work

   A tattoo is a permanent mark made on the body. Pigment is inserted into the dermal (second) layer of skin through punctures in the skin’s top layer. There are several methods of tattoo removal. Laser tattoo removal has become the standard treatment because it is low risk and does not require an incision, unlike other methods.
   
   Laser tattoo removal is generally an outpatient procedure that requires a topical numbing cream. Using a handheld device, we apply powerful pulses of energy to the unwanted tattoo. The resulting heat penetrates through the top layer of skin, shattering the tattoo ink into tiny fragments. The body’s immune system then gradually absorbs the fragmented pigments, meaning that over several sessions the tattoo’s appearance diminishes. More than one treatment may be needed to achieve the best results.
   
   

2. How safe are the treatments?

   Laser tattoo removal is considered a safe and effective treatment option. Risks and side effects associated with laser treatments are often less severe than other traditional methods such dermabrasion or excision.
   
   

3. Are there any risks?

   When performed by a qualified, experienced professional, risks associated with laser tattoo removal are rare. All potential risks will be discussed with you in-depth during the consultation process. The most significant risk is infection, but this risk can usually be prevented if you follow post-treatment instructions. Additionally, you may experience temporary or permanent pigmentary changes: your skin may become darker or lighter.
   
   

4. Are there any side effects from tattoo removal?

   Following treatment, you may experience some temporary swelling, bruising or superficial flaking. Your skin may appear red or sunburned for a few weeks, meaning you should avoid excessive sun exposure for several weeks.
   
   

5. What results can I expect from tattoo removal?

   After just a single treatment, you should begin to notice a visible reduction in your tattoo. Several sessions may be needed to reach optimal results. Laser tattoo removal can significantly decrease the appearance of your tattoo, but there is no guarantee that it will be completely erased. More than one session is typically needed to lighten a tattoo, and it might not be possible to completely remove your tattoo.
