Varicose Vein Berkshire
Normal veins work by a system of valves that allow blood to travel to the heart. A varicose vein occurs when a valve malfunctions, causing a pooling of blood within the vein. These unpleasant veins occur most commonly in the legs, are primarily inherited, and, whilst evident in older men, sometimes appear earlier in women, such as in the middle of pregnancy. Typical symptoms of this condition, beyond the prominence of the veins in legs, are: irritation, heaviness in the legs, mild swelling of the ankles, and discolouration of the skin.
Foam sclerotherapy is an improved method of treatment for varicose veins and has been extensively accepted for some time as the most direct therapy. Traditionally, the vein was injected with a liquid solution which solidified and thus blocked the vein from blood flow. Foam is now used, rather than pure liquid, as the results are improved and last longer. Directly following treatment, most patients can drive and continue their usual daily routine.
