Varicose Vein Sussex
Normal veins operate by allowing blood to travel to the heart through an arrangement of valves. Varicose veins happen when a valve ceases to function properly, which causes a pooling of blood within the vein. These large veins occur most commonly in the legs, are passed on genetically, and, although experienced by older men, often appear earlier in women, for example, in the middle of pregnancy. Typical indications of this condition, beyond the swelling of the veins in legs, are: pain, heaviness in the legs, swollen ankles with ulceration, and discolouration of the skin.
Foam sclerotherapy is an improved method of varicose vein treatment and has been widely accepted for quite some time now as the most direct therapy. Traditionally, a fortifying solution was introduced into the vein which thickened, therefore blocking the vein from blood flow. Foam is used now, instead of pure liquid, since the results are greater and are longer lasting. Directly following treatment, most of our patients are able to drive and resume their regular daily activities.
