1. Do I require an initial consultation?

   Yes an initial consultation will be required with one of our cosmetic doctors or medical aestheticians who will assess your skin condition and recommend an appropriate course of Omnilux blue light therapy which may be combined with other treatments such as skin peels, Omnilux revive or Omnilux plus light therapy to achieve optimum results.

2. What is Omnilux?

   Omnilux blue™ is a completely new approach to the treatment of acne and offers an alternative or support to oral and topical acne medications.

   People who suffer with acne usually develop excess oil in the sebaceous glands and this combines with cells that line the gland walls and clog the skin’s ores. Normal skin bacteria then colonise these pores and the body’s responses causes the inflammation or reddening of the skin that we associate with acne. One of the key bacteria responsible for this condition is called Propionibacterium acnes or P.acnes. These bacteria produce natural chemicals called porphyrins which are sensitive to light at different wavelengths. If stimulated these chemicals will neutralise the bacteria and with no bacteria present inflammation will subside.

3. How long does the treatment take and how many sessions will I require?

   You first treatment will take approximately 45 minutes allowing for ‘before’ photographs to be taken and ongoing treatments will typically be 30 minute appointments, twice per week at a minimum of 48 hour internals during which time light is administered for 20 minutes.

   Most moderate acne inflammation can be cleared in as few as 8 x 20 minute sessions, but patients must be aware that due to the nature of acne conditions there will be a small percentage of patients who may not see results.

4. Is this treatment painful?

   The treatment is safe, pain free and non-invasive and there is no recovery time. Make-up may be applied immediate afterwards.

5. How long do the results last?

   This will vary according to skin type and lifestyle and whether you have combined your course of treatment with Omnilux Revive™ or glycolic facial peels. Generally however, following a course of treatments you can expect to see an overall improvement in the appearance of the skin. Subjects in trials all with mild to moderate acne vulgaris reported a significant successful treatment response with an optimum reduction in inflammatory lesions of 73% 4 – 8 weeks post treatment. By 12 weeks post treatment this increased to an 89% reduction in inflammation.Monthly maintenance visits are recommended to maintain results.
