Breast reduction

An over generous bust size can often be distressing and uncomfortable. Many women with overly large breasts suffer discomfort and pain, especially backache, from the weight they are carrying. Others can find their everyday activities restricted or experience difficulty finding clothes that they enjoy wearing. A large bust can also cause skin irritation and shoulder soreness from tight bra straps.

A cosmetic breast reduction or 'Mastopexy' as it is also known, aims to make the breasts smaller, shapelier and better supported. Breast Reduction usually requires a one or two night stay in hospital.

Frequently asked questions

What size can my breasts be reduced to?

Each individual case is different but during the medical consultation the surgeon will examine you and discuss the achievable reduction in size.

Who is a good candidate for a breast reduction?

A breast reduction is usually performed for physical relief helping the patient reduce the discomfort and embarrassment caused by very large or saggy breasts rather than for purely cosmetic reasons.

Will I need to take time off work?

Breast reduction can take up to 3 hours to perform. It will be under general anaesthetic and require a 1-2 night stay in hospital. Patients should take 7-14 days of work as determined by your surgeon.

Will I feel pain afterwards?

Patients will feel sore or uncomfortable for several days after the operation. Pain killers and anti inflammatory medication will be prescribed. Patients must anticipate noticeable bruising which may persist for a number of weeks but this is normal. The results may be obscured by swelling for some time.

What will I look like after surgery?

All surgery is associated with bruising, so you should expect this for 7-10 days after your operation. Some patients remain bruised for longer and in rare cases for up to a month or more. You may start to see the results quickly but you will not see the final benefits of your surgery for many months.

Will I have any scars?

The most usual method leaves a scar that runs around the edge of the areola (surrounding the nipple) and one in the crease underneath the breast with a vertical scar linking the two. These scars do not usually show outside an ordinary bra or bikini top and will fade with time.

Who needs it?

Large breasts can be problematic both to health. They can create pain and discomfort to the shoulders neck and back. Heavy breasts can also cause skin infections, rashes and excessive sweating. A woman with large breasts will usually have difficulty participating in sporting activities which will limit her choice of fitness activities. On an emotional level, large breasted women who seriously consider breast reduction surgery are often self conscious about their bodies.

What happens?

Breast reduction surgery is done under a general anaesthetic and will take approximately 2-4 hours. Once the anaesthetic wears off you’ll be given pain killers and may also be prescribed antibiotics. You should anticipate being in the clinic for a couple of days, (so you should bring a supportive but soft bra with you to wear afterwards). Our expert team will advise you on issues such as movement, hygiene, diet and exercise before you leave the clinic. If you have dissolvable stitches, these will be gone within two weeks, but ordinary stitches will probably be removed within a week (about the same time the support dressing that was placed over your breasts is removed – but you be advised to wear a support bra for up to 6 weeks post-surgery).

Where should the incision be?

The incision can be made in a number of places: the fold underneath the breast, the area around the nipple, under the arm, or through the navel. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, partly depending on the size of the implant and your preferred type of filling. Scars from implants generally heal well and become barely visible.

Does the surgery carry any risks?

Although there are general risks associated with any type of surgery, complications are rare. It's wise though, to be aware of the possible problems that can occur - which your surgeon will be happy to talk you through in greater detail.

Can I talk to people who have already had the treatment I am considering?

Certainly, and we'll be more than happy to arrange this for you.

Will the breast reduction be immediately apparent?

Although your breasts will feel lighter and look smaller, it could be a few months before they take on their new shape.

How much can I expect to pay for this procedure?

Prices from £4,950 - £5,200 (regional variations apply).  Please note: a non-surgical treatment and product package is included in the cost of surgery to assist with healing and ensure optimum results.

Laser hair removal

Welcome to Court House Clinics. Under the guidance of Dr Patrick Bowler (well known from the television programme “10 years younger”) Court House has grown to offer a huge range of cosmetic and beauty treatments. Whilst these cover everything from high surgery treatments such as a face lift through to low surgery treatments as Botox, in recent times laser hair removal has become one of our most popular treatments. Laser hair removal is a great way to deal with the growth of unwanted hair without having to go through the day-to-day ritual of shaving. With so many people coming to us for laser hair removal, we are now in position to offer it at a very competitive price. We also have regular promotions on it as well, for both new and existing hair removal customers.

Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery is no longer the preserve of the rich and famous but is now accessible to everyone. This is largely due to safer techniques, reduced downtime with shorter scars, and greater awareness due to media exposure. It is also partly down to the larger number of people who have had non-surgical treatments before diving straight into cosmetic surgery.

The most common treatment that is carried out is liposuction (tummy tuck), rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), otoplasty (ear correction) and blepharoplasty (eyebag or eyelid surgery). These are often carried out in conjunction with treatments such as chin or cheek implants.

The most common surgery carried on women is breast enlargement (augmentation) and then mastopexy (breast uplift) closely followed by breast reduction surgery and face-lifts. However we are also seeing a marked increase for requests for labia and vaginal plastic surgeries.

Arguably the biggest change in recent years is the increase in demand for male cosmetic surgeries, with the most popular treatments being chest reduction, pectoral implant and testicular implants.

Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments

The demand for non-surgical treatments has grown at an even faster rate than cosmetic surgery. The treatments that are most in demand are laser hair removal and microdermabrasion treatments. These can mimic the effects of surgery or be used in combination with surgical procedures to enhance and prolong results.

For people with problem skin scientific breakthroughs now mean we are able to offer some of the best acne treatments available in combination with most effective anti aging treatments. For example we have invested in some of the latest acne laser treatment and when combined with chemical glycolic skin peels or perlane injections this can create similar effects as a cosmetic face-lift surgery and is very effect treatment for acne scarring.

Some of the non-surgical options provide a real alternative to surgery. A prime example of this is smart Lipo. This laser assisted liposculpture provides fast fat loss where the fat is actually dissolved by the body naturally. For small areas of localised fat this treatment is sometimes better than Liposuction as it is minimally invasive and involves little downtime.

In addition to these treatments we also offer thread vein removal, sculptra, perlane and restylane injections, skin tag removal, mole removal, cyst removal and laser tattoo removal.
