Cheek and chin implants are frequently considered by both men and women to correct a receding chin or provide more defined cheekbones. Chin augmentation (Mentoplasty) and cheek implants (malar augmentation) are surgical procedures using implants which are designed to provide a more attractive and distinctive look. These procedures can also benefit those with asymmetries or congenital defects.

Cheek Implants:

These implants help to improve and enhance facial contours thereby providing more balance to facial features. They may also be used to fill out the face helping to deal with “sunken” areas which give the impression of tiredness resulting in a more youthful appearance.

Prices start from £4670

Chin Implants:

The chin may be reshaped either by enhancement with an implant or by reduction surgery on the bone. This particular type of surgery can be combined with nose reshaping to balance the face because quite often the chin may magnify or minimise the size of the nose.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What does cheek and chin implant surgery involve?

In certain cases, cheek or chin implant surgery may only require a local anaesthetic combined with a light sedative, however, more frequently, a general anaesthetic is recommended. In some cases the procedure may require stay overnight.

Q: How are cheek and chin implants performed?

Chin Implant Surgery

Your surgeon will select the correct size and shape of the implant to enhance your appearance and this will have been determined during your initial consultation.

A small incision is made to create a pocket either inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under the chin area where the implant will be inserted. This will then enhance the appearance of your jawbone.

Cheek Implant Surgery

Cheek implants may be used at the same time as other procedures e.g. a facelift, brow lift or eyelid surgery and they are usually inserted through the same incisions. For a cheek implant procedure which is being performed on its own, an incision is made either inside your upper lip or your lower eyelid and a pocket is then created for the implant to be inserted into.

Both procedures usually take approximately 60 – 90 minutes to perform.

What happens after surgery?

Patients generally experience swelling and bruising which tends to settle down within 2 weeks.

Will I need to take time off work afterwards?

You may feel capable of returning within 2-5 days, but your appearance will be the limiting factor and it is therefore more realistic to consider returning to work within 1 – 2 weeks so as to aid a full recovery. Exercise may be resumed in 2 weeks.

Can I expect to see any scars after surgery?

Scars are usually on the inside of your mouth where they are not visible. The stitches used to close your incisions are usually absorbable and will not require removal.

When can I expect to see the final result?

The final result will be seen between 1 - 2 months.
