Get Your Legs Ready For Summer With Sclerotherapy

We’re well into June, and summer is in full swing – but it’s hard to celebrate the start of shorts season and parade your pins with confidence when you suffer from unsightly varicose veins. Typically, symptoms are worse in warm weather, so if you’re self-conscious about the state of your legs, and fed up of suffering from painful, swollen veins, our new Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy could be the solution.
What is Foam Sclerotherapy?
Previously surgical removal (ligation and stripping), with all the associated risks and lengthy recovery of a general anaesthetic and a hospital stay, was the only option for varicose veins. But we now offer a walk-in, walk-out alternative. As the name suggests, our Foam Sclerotherapy treatment uses a special foam that is gently injected into damaged veins, causing them to safely collapse, shrink – then disappear! This procedure is performed in clinic by our Sclerotherapy Specialist Dr Keith Rose, so you can be sure you’re in safe hands.
How does the treatment work?
In simple terms, the foam solution (or sclerosant) that is injected causes controlled damage to the vein lining, which is then destroyed naturally by the body. The treated veins then start to fade, as stronger veins take over their role. Mixing the Sclerotherapy solution with foam greatly enhances its efficacy, with no unwanted side effects. We use ultrasound to guide the treatment needle into the vein, for even more precise delivery. Before treatment begins, we numb the affected area with a local anaesthetic, so you’re awake and aware for the whole procedure. From start to finish, the whole process is much less invasive than traditional surgery. There’s no hospital stay required; procedure time is fast (around 30 minutes); and recovery is rapid, with no downtime. You should be able to walk out of our clinic and return to your everyday activities immediately!
Who is the treatment suitable for?
Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy is most suitable for those with small to moderate sized varicose veins. It can also treat varicose veins that have recurred after previous invasive surgery. With this procedure, we can treat more than one vein at a time, although you may require more than one treatment before your veins fully fade. Varicose veins usually occur on the legs and feet but Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy can also be performed in certain other areas of the body where veins are prominent and/or painful.   For more information about Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy, or to book a consultation, call us now on 0203 907 8828.
