What conditions can laser skin resurfacing treat?
Laser skin resurfacing can be used to treat a wide range of skin conditions. You may want to consider laser skin resurfacing if you are concerned by one or more of the following:

– Fine lines or wrinkles
– Age spots or sun damage
– Crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes)
– Lines or wrinkles around the mouth
– Acne scars or minor scars from injury
– Some pre-cancerous skin growths

A variety of skin tones and types can be successfully treated with laser skin resurfacing.* However, certain skin characteristics such as thickness or texture may impact your final results. During your free consultation with Courthouse Clinics our skin care specialists will be able to determine if laser skin resurfacing is right for you.

How does laser skin resurfacing work?
Laser skin resurfacing is an outpatient procedure that may take between 30 minutes and 2 hours. A local anaesthetic (pain relief at the site of the procedure) in combination with oral or intravenous sedatives will be administered prior to your procedure to minimise discomfort.

Using a handheld device, your laser specialist will deliver pulsating beams of light to the treatment area to precisely remove thin layers of damaged skin cells. Following your procedure, the treatment area will be covered with a sterile surgical dressing that will remain on your skin for at least 24 hours.

Which areas can be treated?
Laser skin resurfacing can be used to treat surface irregularities on almost any part of the body. The most common treatment areas include the face, neck, chest, hands and arms.
Will I require a consultation?
Yes, a consultation will be needed to assess your skin and devise a personalised treatment plan. Generally, you will be required to see one of our qualified laser specialists at least two weeks prior to your procedure.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments required will depend on the severity of your condition. Most patients achieve optimal results after 3-6 treatment sessions.* Treatments are typically performed in 3-5 week intervals. The final result may last for several years.
How long is the recovery period?
Immediately following your procedure, you may need a friend or family member to drive you home. Most patients require 4-7 days off from work to recover. Your skin may be red and swollen for up to 10 days.

After the initial redness fades, your skin may appear slightly pink for several weeks, or months, but this can be concealed with makeup. This redness generally persists longer for blondes and redheads.

Does the treatment hurt?
In general, laser skin resurfacing is well-tolerated by most patients. You may experience some soreness or discomfort – similar to moderate sunburn – for 7-10 days while your new layer of facial skin begins to form. We will provide you with specific aftercare instructions to control discomfort and enhance healing.
Are there any side effects associated with laser skin resurfacing?
One of the key advantages to laser skin resurfacing is that it can treat a wide range of skin imperfections with minimal side effects. Some of the most common side effects include redness and swelling. More severe complications may include infection, abnormal healing, skin irritation or scarring. All potential side effects and complications will be discussed with you in detail during your consultation.
